Epigenetic Technology

Why Epigenetic Crop Breeding?

Epigenetics is the natural process by which plants respond to their environment.

Plant growth is conditioned by everyday decisions on how much energy to expend on “defense” vs “growth vigor” to out-compete neighboring plants. The “decision” the plant makes is an epigenetic switch – the act of adjusting specific gene pathways.

When a plant takes that action, its genes have not changed. The genes are all present, but some are adjusted.

Epigenetics is nature's way of improving crops.
